Geophysics At UCR
In the IGPP we are building a Center for Earthquake Physics, in which we focus on
the underlying physics of earthquake initiation and slip propagation. Current activities
are three-fold:
- experiments on faulting triggered by mineral reactions in which a low-viscosity
fluid is produced
- measurement of current flow within the crust and mantle, with particular interest
in phenomena associated with earthquakes and partial melting
- dynamic modeling of earthquake rupture
